The Campsis Indian summer has been infested, for the second year with small brown bugs a little smaller than a lady bird. Can any one tell me what sort of pest this is, and how to treat it.
Many thanks
P Henderson

Sorry to hear of your problem! Could you tell us what effect are the pests having on the plant? Are they eating the leaves, or distorting new growth etc?

It could be brown aphids, which campsis are particularly susceptible to – see photo below. Does this look anything like what you’re seeing? If not maybe you could upload a photo or describe them in a little more detail – are they smothering the plant in big groups, or more sparsely located? What does the body look like – is it similar in shape to a ladybird or just in size?

If it is aphids then spraying regularly with a soap spray, or any aphid spray available from your garden centre should do the treat.

Hope this helps. Look forward to hearing from you.
