Hi Mike and Anne,
To take softwood cuttings from Dianthus just cut a non flowering shoot off the plant, trim it to just below a leaf joint, pull away any lower leaves to leave just a few sets at the top, dip into rooting powder and insert around the edge of a pot filled with gritty compost. Water well, and place a polythene bag over the pot and secure it with an elastic band. If you leave this on a sunny windowsill and keep the compost moist you should find that the cuttings root within a month.
Hope this helps! Don’t forget to add it to your ‘plants I have’ list to receive regular care instructions http://www.shootgardening.co.uk/plant/dianthus-tickled-pink?referrer=%2Fplant%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Ddianthus+tickled+pink
