The bug killer does not seem to be killing off the scale on the hydranga what should we do? We dont want it to effect the rest of the hydrangas

Hi Alison,

The best time to attack these is immediately on hatching (nymphs will emerge from these scales). Whilst still cocooned inside the scales they are fairly protected from anything you spray them with, so this is likely to be why your efforts have had little effect up until now. The hatching is typically midsummer, so should be happening anytime soon – keep your eye on things. A soapy spray should do the trick once the time comes.
