I would like to grow this over a south faceing Front Door arch. My preference is that it should be a strong scent - would Eden suit and if not I welcome suggestions? I do not want thorns, jasmine or the like.

Hi, Mary,
P. caerulea 'Eden' will do fine as long as it doesn't get hit by hard frost/freezing temp/cold winds - doesn't sound like it will if it is south-facing on a front door arch. Another suggestion would be any form/variety/cultivar of Rosa banksiae (one of my all-time favourites!) - it is semi-evergreen, thornless and fragrant. Only slight downside is it is vigorous so will need to be kept in check in a few years but very easy to care for.
