My dwarf sunflowers 'Irish Eyes' are drooping and wilting, not just the flowers the whole plant is shrivelling up. They are in pots and in full sun. What should I do/not do to improve them?

Hi, Alison,
How deep are the pots? How much water are they getting? Has it been warm and sunny?

Typically they are now looking much brighter, but I have noticed that different websites give different watering rules. They are in 8 inch deep troughs, in full sun but they are only dwarf ones. Any ideas about the watering?

HI,
Eight inches is a bit on the shallow side, even for dwarfs. How many are in the trough? How long is the trough? Dwarf varieties should be spaced about 30cm apart. Given the trough depth, full sun, and the vigorous nature of sunflowers, you might have to water every day, maybe every other day. Warmer, windey weather will mean you need to water more frequently. Experiment and see. Water and then see how they day in a day. If they look droopy watering every other day, do it once a day.
