Hi,
I have a Japanese Cloud Tree. It is about 4 years old, and planted in the ground. Until this year, I had no problems but now, several of the 'clouds' seem to be dying off. Do you have any idea what the problem can be, and can you suggest a solution?
Regards,
Gilbert Wright

HI, Gilbert,
Any signs of pests - they are susceptible to scale which could cause dieback. Other thought is pruning - when do you prune?

Hi Kathy,
No pests that I've noticed, but I'm no gardener. How would I recognise the culprit causing scale. I usually prune after spring to get the clouds back into shape, but it was hardly necessary this year.
Is there any hope for recovery, do you think? Do I need to spray it with something? Water it more? I'll have a look for creepies on it. There are certainly a lot of spiders webs.
