Have a plant that's spreading like mad, would like to kow what it is.

from Alun Williams

Bought this plant a few years ago and can't find what it's called. I like it but it does need thinning out to avoid it taking over.

Re: Does anybody know what this plant is ?

from Alun Williams

thank you Elaine, your reply gave me enough information to search further. I think it is probably an Iberis and maybe an Iberis umbellata.

Does anybody know what this plant is ?

from Alun Williams

I bought is perennial plant a few years ago but have mislaid its description. It's quite hard having survived this winter. It's about 12" tall and purple flowers. It self seeds as I notice a small new plant in the soil near to it.

thanks, I had a feeling it might be a cornflower and you've confirmed this.

Have grown this plant for a few years from seed which I take, it's quite small and fragile but I like it in my borders. It's about 9 to 18 inch tall, flowers July and Aug.

Is it legal to bring seeds into the UK ? Should you report this action ?

Re: Can someone tell me what this plant is?

from Alun Williams

It is not chives, but a wild plant (not sure of name) which grows in my front garden, although I did not pant it. It can be found on the mountains in Wales in wet/damp areas, although it will grow anywhere. As kids we used to call it a "bull rush" but I don't know why it got this name.
I think it will self seed from the small brownish flower head it grows. Hope this helps.
