How do you prune your Cornus Kousa? It only needs deadwood removing and if you prune is too hard this could be a cause.

Stephen,
so much on flavour is down to personal taste but I would recommend looking at jbaseedpotatoes.co.uk as they give a good description of a huge variety that they sell and will make your decision a little easier.

if it is euryops pectinatus then it appears to be at its maximum size now. Cutting it back by 6 inches after flowering allows it to flower through the rest of the year. So if you cut it back further it will be at the expense of a shorter flowering season this year. But these can get leggy over time if they are not cut back hard every few years. As it is not hardy I guess that you are in a mild area or have it in a conservatory.

There is a lot of choice but have a look at the david austin website as they give some good advice. Wild Edric is a good repeater, scented and worth looking at. You will need a number of roses so wait for bare root to get them cheaper.
Kiftsgate would easily cover the entire length with a single rose as it is a very vigorous rambler and you get small hips after flowering.
