Sarah Wint, My Garden (WR15)

Styles: Conservation and restoration, Allotment or vegetable plot, English cottage, Organic, Rural, Spiritual, Wildflower, Wildlife

Aspect: North, South, East, West

The garden is on the edge of a woodland in a valley on heavy clay soil. After six years it is finally starting to look pretty and has a loose, relaxed feel I like to think of it as an answer to Mirabel Osler's' A Gentle Plea for Chaos'. Close to the house there is a cottage garden, a courtyard garden with wisteria crab apples and alpines, a spring garden, wild and wiggly beds, a potager and a kitchen garden. Beyond the main garden and along the brook is a bank with an old apple orchard, a nuttery, woodland and wild meadows. All in all nearly nine acres which we manage carefully to protect wild animals, plants and insects.
