Just under 7 acres of mainly woodland, with about 1.5 acres of gardens, including 3/4 acre terraced gardens looking across Padarn Lake at the village of Llanberis in Snowdonia National Park. My self-imposed remit here is to tart-up the publically visible areas, ideally restoring the difficult terraced gardens to what they could have been like in Victorian times, which will be in keeping with the main house which is about 170 years old. Several distinct areas, all requiring their own treatment, covering small cottage garden, woodland garden, difficult & challenging planting areas (behind the house & the terraces are on a 40 degree slope!), and it's all overgrown with birch trees, rhododendrons, ferns everywhere, pine trees, lots of ericaceous plants, and weeds galore! I've only started on the gardens & my projects in March of this year. I'm sure I'll still be here in 18 months time!

About me
Jack of all. Green fingers runs in the family as Great Uncle worked at Grenwich for over 40 years & was arawded the MBE when he retired. I spent 3 years at Oaklands Hort. Coll. (Herts) back in the 80's & my 1st job was in an orchid nursery! 30-some years later, I now find myself helping parents in their 7-acre home in Llanberis, Wales. With several projects planned, I think I've bitten off more than I can chew. Therefore, any help & advice will be received with pleasure! Several challenges await, including a terraced garden with slopes on about 40 degrees, silver birch & ash self-seeding everywhere along with acres of rhododendron (weed!), a sloping area behind the main house which only receives a few hours of sun in the morning before the house puts it in shade - what can I do with that?? A circular 8m dia. x 1m deep pond which I'd like to re-instate (HSE permitting!) More to come!

Gardening expertise
Very Keen

Biggest gardening accomplishments
My 1st job was at an orchid nursery in Hertfordshire. We regularly received complements (indirectly) from the Queen Mother on our Phalenopsis we would send her.

Biggest gardening frustrations
Welsh weather! And possibly the greenhouse not being big enough.

The gardening project I am currently working on
7-acre property,
