The client brief for this garden was that it must be low maintenance and have longevity, as well as materials and plants that are suited to this very shady site, The solution was to use porcelain paving and reconstituted decking on a polymer frame, with shade tolerant planting. The decking has a lifespan of 25 years and the paving is virtually impervious with little cleaning needed. Planting had a Japanese hint, with Acers, bamboos, ferns, hostas, astilbes and the Japanese grass, Hakonechloa macra. A minimal drilled boulder water feature set within a raised bed mulched with cobbles and shingle retained the simplicity of the garden. Flower colour will be added with Astrantias, Hemerocallis and Hydrangea Annabelle underplanted with blue violas. There is not a published plan for this garden yet.
