Peter Sutton, My Garden (HG2)

Soil types: Clay

Soil drainage: Moisture-retentive

Soil pH: Acid

Light: Partial Shade

Exposure: Sheltered

Hardiness: Hardy (H4)

This is a small town garden, which is split into two rooms. The first part consists of beds around a gravel area, with a number of containers. The containers were originally grouped into threes, but as their quantity has grown this area has taken on more of a cottage garden look. One of the paths leads through a series of arched trellises covered with climbers, to an inner sanctum. The inner area has a south facing summer house and patio. On two sides there are curved raised beds, with steps and false pathway, to give the feel of an amphitheatre. The trellis arches make up the third side. The walls of the raised bed are almost invisible with plants growing up through the gravel infront, and plants growing down from the beds above. The planting is mainly of long flowering perennials. But with an number of unsual plants including 40 different species of Salvia.
