A garden with a number of distinct zones: Japanese (classical), ericaceous plants (pH < 5.5), temperate rain forest, mediterranean, rose garden and lush sub-tropical. About one third in shade (50:50 moist:dry and 50:50 dappled:deep) and the rest mostly full sun. Well-sheltered by high brick walls. No grass, only gravel. Freely and eclecticly planted, no formal beds. Many bamboos (eight big and miniature) and many ferns, including grove of six tall tree-ferns. Three levels with slopes and retaining walls. Nine square metre pond with Koi carp.
