A garden with a number of distinct zones: Japanese (classical), ericaceous plants (pH < 5.5), temperate rain forest, mediterranean, rose garden and lush sub-tropical. About one third in shade (50:50 moist:dry and 50:50 dappled:deep) and the rest mostly full sun. Well-sheltered by high brick walls. No grass, only gravel. Freely and eclecticly planted, no formal beds. Many bamboos (big and miniature) and ferns, including grove of six tall tree-ferns. Three levels with slopes and retaining walls. Nine square metre pond with Koi carp.
