Vivienne Jenkins, My Garden (CF35)

Soil types: Loamy

Soil drainage: Moist but well-drained

Soil pH: Neutral

Light: Full Sun, Partial Shade

Aspect: South

Exposure: Sheltered

My garden is an inherited, mainly laid to grass plot. It was originally planted with conifers and had an unattractive rockery surrounding the patio. I have since removed several of the larger stones and have created planting pockets for Armeria Maritima, Meconopsis Cambrica, Geranium Claridge Druce and Campanula Portenschlagiana. This is its first season since I moved here.

About me
I'm a sixty year old who came to gardening in my mid forties and have been a huge fan since. I'm no expert but can follow instructions and generally succeed with my sowing, cuttings and planting out. My current garden is my fourth in 17 years and working full time doesn't leave me as much time as I'd like to potter about on my plot. my husband is more interested in sailing but does mow the grass and digs the occasional planting hole for me, thank goodness!

Gardening expertise
Very Keen

Biggest gardening accomplishments
Designing and planting out my last two gardens - reclaiming them from what were formerly fields - full of Japanese Knotweed, Dock, Thistles and various other thugs.

Biggest gardening frustrations
Slugs (I hate them with a passion) and cats who dig up seedlings and bury small plants every time they use my borders as a public convenience!

The gardening project I am currently working on
Planting up a border which was covered over with weed suppressant and bark (to eradicate bindweed) when we moved in last year.
