Hardiness: Hardy (H4)

My garden was getting out of control and had lost its structure and integrity; the fencing and lawn was coming to the end of its life and I wanted to instil a new 'aura' of tranquillity, contained planting and more entertainment space. Radical new fencing, paths, 'slate' patio and raised beds, together with brand new turf have provided the foundation for my 'Zen' orientated garden. Far removed from my 'cottage garden' ethos of past, the planting is mostly dark reds, highlighted in white with emphasis on flower shape and year-round interest. Bamboo, acers, magnolia and bulbs furnish large urns and pots while 5 large chinese red pots filled with grasses 'float' on a white gravel 'river' edging one side of the garden.

About me
I have been involved in garden and interior design, writing, styling and photography for many years. However, my own garden was looking unmanageable and worn out so when the opportunity arrived both financially and time-wise, I designed this new model. Now that I am no longer writing or designing my own work is now based on photographic flower compositions printed on super-size canvas for home, hotel, restaurant and office decoration. You can see them on www.thewallflowersgallery.com

Gardening expertise
Very Keen

Biggest gardening accomplishments
Being given the opportunity and privilege to write about other people's gardens including 'Gardens of the Heart' and 'The Cottage Garden' (biography of Marjorie Fish at East Lambrook Manor). Also many garden articles thanks to the generosity and open spirit of some fabulous gardeners.

Biggest gardening frustrations
Not being nearly as knowledgeable as any of the people whose gardens I have written about.

The gardening project I am currently working on
My own garden in Bath city centre. Much more to be done and the right plants to be found. I am very excited about going in a 'new' gardening direction.
