Mostly full sun with little part shade or shade. Extremely windy, hot and dry. Rainfall quickly soaks away so watering is required regularly. Small productive vegetable plot. Mostly laid to lawn with a raised bank that used to be a hedge down one side. I am desperately trying to mulch this sufficiently to support the plants I have introduced but its an ongoing battle. Small shady area where my ferns thrive. All plants used to be in pots at my previous property; a victorian terrace courtyard but have taken to the move well. The plants I worried about have survived and my borders are beginning to flourish..There is not a published plan for this garden yet.
About me
Developed an interest in having a pretty garden in my early 40's. Now I am nearly 50 I am potty about my plant collection and propagation. I am learning as I go and aim to have a proper cottage garden one day.
All my plants have a memory attached to them and they all have either been rescued or bought from a special place. Forde Abbey and Hestercombe are my favourites because one can see the plants in their huge gardens first.
If I am away from my garden even for a day I can notice the difference in spring growth and love to see them bursting into life.
My next project is edible plants after my children pointed out we can't eat anything I grow! So I have some tomatoes, beans, potatoes (growing in a basket), carrots and broccolli coming on.
Finally in 2009 my dream is to come true. I will move to a cottage with a proper garden, I can't wait to get started!
Gardening expertise
Very Keen
Biggest gardening accomplishments
My collection of plants obtained since my interest began. All in pots and cared for according to their needs. My first cuttings that didn't fall over and shrivel were a source of great pride.
Biggest gardening frustrations
Not able to plant my treasures in the ground and give them the room they need to grow properly. Greenfly, whitefly, wireworms and vine weevils. Wind and frost damage.
The gardening project I am currently working on
Planning my new garden.
