Mark and Irene, My Garden (IP23)

Styles: Rural

Soil types: Clay

Soil drainage: Moisture-retentive

Soil pH: Alkaline

Light: Full Sun

Exposure: Exposed

Hardiness: Hardy (H4)

Our front garden is south facing, on stony clay. Plants gets the full force of the prevailing south-west wind, but have the advantage of maximum sunshine all year round. The aim is to have a 'mixed hot border' with brightly coloured plants making use of lots of foliage to give all year round colour. We like scented plants, and bird-friendly plants. The border is very low maintenance, and we mix conifers, shrubs, trees, roses, herbs, annuals, bulbs and perennials. Every year is different, as some plants become more dominant, and others die out. Every couple of years we have a winter 'clear out', and fill up the gaps with hopefully some varieties new to the plant market.
