susan turner, My Garden (NG9)

Styles: English cottage

small Sissinghurst inspired garden, created over the last 30 years, several different rooms.small rill connecting 2 ponds.over 100 roses and 70 + clematis.several mature trees, including a medlar, now create depth and shade.Have a small intimate white/blue and yellow area.My garden is full of colour all year round.I plant in layers so that I always have a succession of interest.I open the garden for Cancer Research every year. This encourages me to keep on top of weeding and inspires me to try new planting designs and search out new and unusual plants.I do not grow or use many annuals, only things like tall white nicotiana and cosmos. For me gardening is an escape from any stress I might have and it has also helped make so many good gardening friends.

About me
Always had an interest in gardening from a very young girl.Made gardens in saucers with twigs and daisys as a child.Had gardening granparents.Went to Brackenhurst College in the mid 90's.Got a credit and this inspired me to work in other peoples gardens, redesigning and maintaining 12 gardens.I now enjoy changing my own garden and opening each year for Cancer Research.I love growing plants from seed and cuttings. Most of which I sell on my open days.

Gardening expertise
Very Keen

Biggest gardening accomplishments
came 2nd in the Broxtowe Borough Council Millenium Garden Competition, which was judged by Martin Fish and John Stirland.

Biggest gardening frustrations
Empty house next door, bind weed starting to come up from under hedges and fences

The gardening project I am currently working on
Redesigning my rose garden to include a more child friendly area now that we have 2 grandaughters.Already built a wooden wendy house complete with childrens garden.
