I have a front garden with flower beds close to the house and a lawn. The flower beds are colourful in Summer with poppies, roses, delphiniums etc. At the back is a raised lawn with a sloping grass bank down to the back of the house. This garden is mainly a restful, cool green in Summer with the grass and hedge. In the spring the back hedge is colourful with a white lilac, a red hawthorn, a crab apple and a pink cherry tree.

About me
I enjoy flower gardening although I think I like reading about it more than grubbing about in the soil. Garden writers who inspire me are Margery Fish, Robin Lane Fox and HLV Fletcher. H.L.V. Fletcher wrote several gardening books in the 1960's although the first one I've read by him was written in 1943. This was called "By St. Phocas" and is an account of his own garden through the year. I've been gardening for 30 years now, long enough to be puzzled by the changing names of plants and the disappearance of old favourites.
