Together with owner, who was new to gardening, we have replanted the front garden planting of this large extended 1940s house, with several borders on different levels, which have differing exposure to sun and moisture, on slightly alkaline soil, with chalky flint bedrock. Predominantly blue, orange and cream colour scheme, with mainly drought resistant plants and contemporary grassy twists to give interest through all seasons. New decking planting pockets at rear have been planted with low maintenance grasses and perennials to give maximum texture and colour between April and October.

Gardening expertise

Biggest gardening accomplishments
After detailed discussion with clients, I work with them to produce mood boards, 3D images, a Master plan, including construction drawings, and planting plans as required. I have planted and maintained gardens in Sussex on clay, in Bucks on chalk, on acid soil in Norfolk, in addition to my own in Hertford. I have helped several peoplein Bucks, Hertford, Hatfield, Cambridge and Norwich develop their gardens. I propagate a variety of shrubs and perennials.

Biggest gardening frustrations
The mature wood at the top of my steep back garden casts shadow on southeast facing garden for much of the day, but I've turned that into an opportunity for growing some shade loving species.

The gardening project I am currently working on
Developing master plan for the redesign of a large garden surrounding a historic thatched cottage garden in a small village in Bedfordshire.
