Karen Clayton, My Garden (G840)

Styles: Wildlife, Rural, Courtyards and small terraces, Coastal

Soil types: Clay

Soil drainage: Moist but well-drained

Soil pH: Acid

Light: Full Sun, Partial Shade

Aspect: South

Exposure: Sheltered

Hardiness: Tender in frost (H3), Hardy (H4)

Front is basically a wide border of about 30' x 4' currently pebbled over, containing fruit trees and herb planters, which I am slowly adding plants too. A small gravelled area between the building and stairs with tub-ed fruit trees and potted plants. A recent addition of a Fallopia Aubertii will hopefully climb the stairs. The rear is currently an old Victorian wash house which we hope to convert into a man cave a shared wash green and a small area which we will deck.

About me
I have been interested in gardening for a while but only recently have acquired my own wee plot. The garden is about 600yds from the beach on the banks of the Clyde Estuary, West coast of Scotland. so salty air and windy days, although quite sheltered. We usually have mild winters and just warm summers. Summer is about 2 weeks in May! I am trying to grow container fruit as space is very limited; Apples, Pears, Peach, Plum and Strawberry and more. I hope to add each year. ironically I don't eat nearly as much fruit as I should!

Gardening expertise
Very Keen

Biggest gardening accomplishments
Getting it to the place it is now, still a long way to go.

Biggest gardening frustrations
The Scottish midges, they can make any afternoon of gardening torture lol.

The gardening project I am currently working on
Painting and decorating, we have an old stone staircase up to our door. I am currently painting the iron railings then the steps (rather hurredly as I have just bought a fallopia aubertii to climb the railings).
