NEW website Shoot is launching a competition to find the country's best private garden. It's free to enter and all you have to do is post your best picture, with a list of eight of your plants, by July 31.

According to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and attractive garden can add five per cent to your house price.

"Our gardens increasingly create an extended social living area," said Nicola Gammon, Shoot founder.

The judges for the Shoot People's Garden Awards include garden designers Andrew Fisher Tomlin and Catherine Heatherington and plantsman Nigel Gibson.

The public will vote on a short-list of 12. Prizes echo Chelsea Flower Show medals, rising from £100 to £1,000 cash. Contact shootgardening.co.uk
