Camellia japonica 'Bonomiana' (Camellia 'Bonomiana') will reach a height of 3m and a spread of 2m after 10-20 years.

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained acid soil in a sheltered shade. Protect buds & flowers from cold, dry winds and early morning sun. Fertilise in mid-spring & early summer. If container grown, use ericaceous compost. Suitable for wall training.

General biosecurity comments

A disease complex involving an ambrosia beetle and fungus; present in South California and Israel; which could affect English oak and other broad leaved species if introduced to UK. Climate is likely to be a limiting factor regarding establishment. Watching brief needed on pest spread into areas with cooler climates and to be added to the EPPO Alert List in response to threat to Southern Europe. A UK PRA will help inform the case for EU regulation.
