Symptoms

- Red spots, usually 1-3cm (0.5-1in) in diameter, appear on the leaf surface in spring. These become darker with a bright margin. Rough brown fungal protrusions then later appear under the leaves.

These produce spores that are spread by the wind to another junipers. The branches of the juniper Pear rust on juniperswell and produce an orange fungal ooze in spring. Spores are then released which re-infect pears. Although unsightly it does not generally cause problems in fruit production.
