- Plants may suddenly wilt, lower leaves yellow and
collapse at ground level. Brown, soft, wet rot is seen with a mass
of fluffy white mould which contains large hard dark bodies.
Sclerotia remain infectious and in the soil for up to seven years.
The airborne spores are released in spring to infect susceptible
plants.
