Severe defoliation of gooseberry bushes and the presence of caterpillar-like larvae up to 20mm (0.75in) long. Defoliated plants are weakened and tend to produce a poor crop the following year.

Spot them

They are pale green with many black spots and they have black heads.

I have had a severe attck of gooseberry sawfly. short of digging my bush out is there anyway I can ensure it won't happen again? Any advice will be appreciated , thank you.
