Symptoms

Old foliage develops a pale mottled discolouration during the winter and many needles fall off in the spring. A black sooty mould may be noticeable on the stem joints.

Spot them

Green spruce aphids are abbout 2mm long, and a dull green colour with dark red eyes. The aphid differs from most other aphids by being active during the autumn to spring, instead of the spring and summer.
