Q. velutina - Q. velutina is a vigorous, spreading, deciduous tree with ridged, dark brown bark and elliptic to obovate, glossy, dark green leaves, brown-hairy beneath, with pointed, deep, bristle-tipped lobes, turning reddish-brown in autumn. Yellow-green flower catkins in spring are followed by ovoid to spherical acorns with cups that cover half of the acorn.
