'Variegatus' is a spiny, semi-climbing, suckering, deciduous shrub bearing slender, arching, cane-like branches, palmate leaves with ovate, toothed, bright green and white, variegated leaflets, and umbels of small, star-shaped, greenish-white flowers in late spring and early summer followed by round, black fruit.
