E. x martini is a upright, clump-forming, evergreen sub-shrub with red-flushed stems bearing lance-shaped, dark grey-green leaves, often flushed purple when young, and, from spring to midsummer, cymes of tiny purple flowers surrounded by prominent, yellow-green bracts.
