L. ciliosa is a large, vigorous, twining, deciduous climber with elliptic to ovate, dark green leaves, the terminal pair of leaves fused around the flower stem, and, from late spring into summer, whorled clusters of tubular, orange to orange-red flowers followed by translucent, orange-red fruit.
