S. pohuashanensis is a large, rounded, deciduous shrub or small tree with pinnate leaves divided into five to seven pairs of oblong to lance-shaped, toothed, dark green leaflets turning, yellow, orange, and red in autumn. Corymbs of white flowers in late spring are followed by spherical, red to orange-red fruit.
