Other names: Weeping copper beech 'Black Swan', Purple beech 'Black Swan', Weeping purple beech 'Black Swan'

'Black Swan' is an upright, deciduous tree with pendulous branches bearing ovate to elliptic, glossy, maroon to purple-black leaves, lighter on the reverse, bronze when young and turning golden bronze in autumn. Inconspicuous green flowers in spring are followed by bristly, pale brown fruit.
