'Purpureum' is a bushy, evergreen shrub or small tree bearing rounded to elliptic, wavy-margined, purple leaves and, sparingly, small, fragrant, bell-shaped, black-red flowers in late spring and early summer, followed by black capsules.The new leaves are pale green before gradually changing to purple.
