P. phillyreoides is a tender, spreading, weeping, evergreen shrub or small tree with linear to narrowly lance-shaped, mid- to dark green leaves, paler beneath, and single or clusters of bell-shaped, cream to yellow flowers in summer followed by spherical, yellow seed capsules containing sticky, orange-red seeds.
