Q. bicolor is a spreading, deciduous tree with peeling, fissured, grey-brown bark and oblong to ovate, shallowly lobed, glossy, dark green leaves, white-hairy beneath when young and yellow in autumn. Oblong to ovoid acorns are enclosed by one-third in rounded caps with hairy scales.
